COMMUNITY RESEARCH
The Child Health Research Program (CHRP) of Institute of Medicine Kathmandu (IOM) and Jackson Foundation has been jointly conducting several studies on the etiology, risk factors, and interactions of enteric infection, malnutrition and its consequences of child health development at the Siddhi Memorial Hospital since 2010. SMH is a regional centre for the CHRP. This program uses the hospitals space, facilities and clients to conduct important research on childhood diseases and development in the Bhaktapur community.

Research Notification
We will conduct a research about antimicrobial resistance and bacterial spectrum of infections among admitted children in Siddhi Memorial Hospital from 15th October 2017 to 15th January 2018. This research is a collaboration work between School of Tropical Medicine and Global Health, Nagasaki University and Siddhi Memorial Hospital.
We expect this research will reveal the bacterial infection spectrums among different age groups of children, different diseases, and pre-and post earthquake periods. It will also show the recent antimicrobial patterns of common bacterial pathogens infecting children in Bhaktapur, which we think will be helpful for medical doctors to select appropriate antibiotics for the empirical treatment.
Data used for the research
As this is a retrospective study, we will use patients’medical and laboratory dataof this hospital.
Objective
To determine the spectrum of bacterial infections and antimicrobial resistance pattern among children in Siddhi Memorial Hospital in Bhaktapur, Nepal
Method
We will extract medical and laboratory data from medical records. In this time, the individual data will be anonymized and summarized to answer the research question. We will not use personal information such as name, phone number, email address etc of the patients. All data will be anonymized and kept safe and confidential.
